MINUTES OF THE APRIL 2008 SMARC MEETING

The Smoky Mountain Amateur Radio Club met at 7:00 PM, 04/28/08 at the USW Union Hall with SMARC president ED, N4EFD presiding.

There were 44 members and 10 visitors present.

The visitors were: Gould Smith, WA4SXM; John Trotter, KD4TDM; Karen Trotter, KJ5DQB; Ray Lloyd, N4UBC; Lou Dreinhoffer, WB3JKQ; David Maniscalco, AJ4HO; Corine Bayne; Carol Roemer; Betty Peabody and Mary Stephens, KG4ITQ.

Prior to the regular meeting, those in attendance participated in the parking lot tailgate flea market where many bargains were to be had by members and visitors bringing radio and electronic items to sell or trade

Following the tailgate activities, a grilled “Hot Dog” supper was enjoyed by all with the club providing hot dogs, chips, chili (with beans), kraut and slaw. Drinks of hot coffee, bottled water or canned soft drinks were also available as was cake for dessert.

Gould Smith, WA4SXM visited the meeting and had his AMSAT set-up going to demonstrate satellite communications for members to observe.

After the Hot Dog supper, Ed opened the meeting by asking that those present introduce themselves as is the practice at our club meetings.

The minutes of the March 2008 meeting are in the newsletter, also on the club web site and were not read.

Ed, N4EFD reminded those present that those who have pledged to contribute to the SMARC Trailer Fund should make their donation as soon as possible as there is a deadline on the club spending the grant money awarded by Senator Finney.

Ed thanked the members who worked on providing the food enjoyed by the members at the meeting.

Carroll, W4PCA said he has the 2008 Field Day items that were ordered by club members along with the club hats, patches and decals. Carroll also collected funds from members who donated toward the SMARC trailer.

The monthly door prize drawing was held with Lee Wilkinson winning the $15 cash award.
